Know your band? Here is where it fits in Irish competitions and how to find a game near you.

Your band in Irish competitions

Our guidance, not the organisers'. None of them publish level definitions, so this is how we read each band against their categories.

Band 1, Pure beginner

Not yet. Play a few club socials or Americanos (rotating partners, you do not need a pair) first, then re-test.

Band 2, Beginner

Irish Padel Tour
BeginnerYou can rally and you are starting to use the walls. Beginner draws are where most people play their first tournament.

Dublin Padel League
Class 6The league's beginner class.
Belfast Padel League
A lower divisionYou can keep a rally going and want regular games at your level.

Band 3, Improver

Irish Padel Tour

How we read each competition

Irish Padel Tour

Weekend tournaments, men's, women's and mixed draws

  • Beginner (bands 2 and 3): You can rally and you are starting to use the walls. Beginner draws are where most people play their first tournament.
  • Intermediate (bands 4 and 5): You hold rallies at club-night pace and play the glass on purpose.
  • Open (bands 5 and 6): The ranked category. Expect strong players who compete regularly.

Not every event runs every category. Only Open counts for the national ranking.

Padel League of Ireland

Club teams of 8 to 10 players, three doubles matches per fixture

  • A lower division (bands 3 and 4): Steady rallies and some match play: enough to hold your own in a club team.
  • The top division (bands 5 and 6): You win points with placement and the walls, not just by keeping the ball in.

Clubs enter the teams and the captain picks the players. Tell your captain your band.

Dublin Padel League

Club teams, divisions by player class (1 is the highest, 6 the beginner class)

  • Class 6 (bands 2): The league's beginner class.
  • Class 5 (bands 3): Rallies hold and you use the back glass some of the time.
  • Class 4 (bands 4): Comfortable at club nights; points are built, not just survived.
  • Class 3 (bands 5): Strong club player with a reliable bandeja and lob.
  • Class 2 (bands 6): Competes regularly and wins points by design.

You declare your own class and an admin may adjust it. If you are between two, the league asks you to enter the lower one. Class 1 sits above Advanced. The level test does not map a band to it.

Belfast Padel League

Teams over eight weeks, divisions by player ability

  • A lower division (bands 2 and 3): You can keep a rally going and want regular games at your level.
  • A middle division (bands 4): Club-night standard with some match experience.
  • A top division (bands 5 and 6): Strong, regular competitive players.

The organiser places teams in divisions. Tell them your band when you enter.
